Key Features
- Short-Term Engagements: Ideal for performances lasting a few days to several months.
- Work Authorization: Includes pathways to obtain necessary work permits if the performance is part of a commercial or paid engagement.
- Support for Visa-Required Artists: Ensures smooth entry for artists from countries needing a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
- Work Permit Exemptions: Certain artists, such as guest performers or those participating in non-commercial events, may not require a work permit.
Exemptions for Performing Artists
Performing artists may not require a work permit if they:
- Are performing for short-term events (e.g., less than 15 days).
- Are participating in non-commercial performances (e.g., charity or cultural festivals).
- Are guest performers not directly employed by a Canadian entity.
Even with a work permit exemption, visa-required individuals still need a TRV to enter Canada.
Every year, over 40,000 artists perform in Canada, contributing to its dynamic cultural scene.
Special Considerations
- Family Accompaniment: Family members accompanying the artist may need to apply separately for their visas or permits.
- Multiple Entries: Some visas allow multiple entries into Canada during the visa’s validity, enabling artists to leave and return for tours.
Processing Times
Generally take 2–4 weeks if all documentation is in order.
